2020 Women Composing for Trumpet Competition
The Women Composing for Trumpet Competition was created to add to the list of “standard” trumpet repertoire composed by women. Though there are many incredible compositions by women for solo trumpet, the only one that is considered “standard” by the trumpet community is the Pakhmutova, written in 1955. It is the goal of this competition to bring light to this matter, as well as give modern women composers the opportunity to contribute to this list of “standards” and be recognized for their accomplishments. The WCFT is a non-profit competition and all additional proceeds will be donated to the International Women’s Brass Conference.
Two (2) first place winners will be selected and notified by the judging panel by 11:59pm on January 15, 2021
Each of these winners will receive the following:

$2,000 in prize money

Award plaque engraved with their name and composition title

World Premiere of their piece at the WCFT Competition Concert in 2021

Collaborative recording of their piece where the composer will get to participate in the recording process to ensure it is realized the way she intended

Publication deal for the winning pieces through Murphy Music Press
