Focusing on the history of landscape painting in Colombia during the 19th century, both scholars and students will find that it is difficult to identify unity or coherence throughout artists, subjects, artworks, themes and styles and no recognizable names immediately stand out as they do in other Latin American countries. In order to approach these multiple histories, it is essential to know and understand the diverse actors, expressions, modes, materials, systems and issues that exist and intertwine to create the new stories of this modern genre in the history of art in this country.
